It is an unfortunate situation that every year thousands of tradesman all over the country have their work vans broken into and all their tools stolen. Sometimes there are very expensive or specialized tools that are taken, costing the owner money to replace them and money through lost business. So how can you make your tools in your truck or van as safe as possible?

Remove the tools. If you want to be 100% sure your tools wont get taken from your van, just take them out. This of course may not stop your van being broken into but will stop you losing valuable items. Further more, tools thieves watch the actions of their targets closely and will move on quickly if they see you removing the tools at the end of the day. Some tools are very difficult to remove each night however and so other security measure need to be put in place instead.

Sticker. Probably the cheapest way to deter criminals is to put a ‘no tools in this van’ sticker somewhere prominent. Most commercial van leasing vehicles come with these on them already and they have much fewer cases of burglary. This is down to the fact that thieves play a percentage game and would rather target a van they are confident about rather than one they have an element of doubt about. In order for this to work however, you will need to hide your tools from view well

Good security. If you can get hold of a van that has a higher than average security level this will do you well. Citroen van leasing vans are well known for their security so these are a good choice. Thieves tend to know as well which vans can be opened without much effort and which take time. More often than not they will go for the easy picks
