Tata, owners of both Jaguar and Land Rover, have announced that they are now losing £1 million a day on the companies.

Because Jaguar are trying to use this new car to save the business, they have modified the design slightly. Although some Jaguar owners have complained about the new design, Jaguar stand by their efforts to make the car more modern. They have done this in an attempt to bring a new audience of car buyes to their doors.

They have changed the design of the car, making it more sleek and stylish. Ian Callum, the designer director, has said that the new design is “right and correct for the 21st Century” and they are now hoping they will gain new customers that wouldn’t have wanted to buy a Jaguar in the past.

Jaguar have also fitted the car out with modern gadgets like a virtual dashboard. This will allow you to customise your dashboard, you can even put your GPS on it. The car also comes with a large boot, a panoramic windscreen and finally, it’s all in a light weight aluminium shell.

Weak Pound has Affect on Ford Prices

Ford are getting ready to increase the prices of their cars by 4% on June 30th. This is the third time since 2007 that they have rose their car prices. The price increases started back in February with a rise by 4.7%, and once again in April by 3.75%.

Ford admitted that it “may seem counter-intuitive” to raise prices during a recession, but due to the current weakness of the pound against the Euro, they said “there is no choice if we are to maintain a viable business”.

Ford stated that the pound had been stable for the last 10 years until the end of 2007 at 1.43 euros, however, during the past 2-3 years, the pound has fallen to 1.16 euros.

Because Ford build their UK cars in Spain and Germany, Euro countries, they had no choice but to increase prices. Before these price rises, Ford had been absorbing the losses which end up around £3,500 for every vehicle sold, however, they cannot sustain this if they plan to keep a stable business, especially during the recession.

These price hikes will also have an affect on the governments car scrappage scheme because the rises will take a huge chunk out of the £2000 grant. With the prices of a Ford S-Max and Galaxy rising by around £750, and other makes like Ka, Fiesta and Focus rising by £600. When buying a new Ford, customers will feel less effect of the car scrappage scheme.

Although this is all bad news for new car buyers, people choosing car leasing over buying won’t see the price rises straight away. US Government Loan $8 Billion to Ford, Nissan and Tesla

The Energy department of the US government have given Ford, Nissan and Tesla a total sum of $8 billion. This money is going to be used to create new jobs while developing fuel efficient cars for the future.

The money is designed to help increase jobs in the car industry, aswell as developing new green cars in the process.

Each car manufacturer will be getting a different amount of the overall total. Ford has received a large amount, $5.9 billion. This money will be spent developing new electric cars, aswell as new technology for current gasoline powered cars.

Ford is happy for this money down to the very low interest rate that comes with it, around 3.75%. Ford would have had to pay double figure interest rates if they had tried to optain this amount of money on the open market.

Nissan will be receiving the second large amount of the loan, $1.6 billion. Nissan have said that the money will be spent on one of their car plants who are developing lithium ion batteries. These new batteries will be going into a new electric car that’s being developed for 2012.

Tesla are only going to receive a tiny amount of the overall sum compared to Ford. Only $465 million is going to them in loans. A big lump of their money will be going to develop their new Model S Sedan which will require a new factory in California. The other bit of the loan will be spent on building greener car parts which will be sold to other car manufacturers.

With this money under their belts, we should start to see a large number of electric cars being released in the market. Being able to choose from an electric car over gasoline would save a leaser even more money. I imagine a huge number of people with a Ford lease or Nissan lease would love to have an electric car as this would save them even more money.

Ford Win Towcar and Security Awards

In the third annula towcar awards Ford have come out on top with their S-Max winning the best in its class. This fantastic car has also won the large MPV class in the 2009 British Insurance Car Security Awards.

The third annual Towcar awards are judged by experts from What Car? Magazine, Practical Caravan and the British Camping and Caravanning Club. It is anticipated that, this year, a record number of towing vehicles will take to the roads as many people in Britain choose to spend their vacations in the British Isles rather than go abroad. Practical Caravan magazine editor Nigel Donnelly has said that there is a real need for unbiased consumer advice regarding towing vehicles as over £1 billion is spent annually in this sector.

In total 39 cars were tested for their towing ability, driving performance when not towing, practicality, value for money and safety. The cars were divided into five categories, based on their kerb weight. The Ford S-Max came out as the top vehicle in its class of 1725kg to 1899kg towcars.

The Ford S-Max came in for further praise and another award in the 2009 British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards. These awards were established in 2004 to raise consumer awareness of what is best in vehicle security and to recognise thsoe motor manufacturers who ahve produced the most secure vehicles. This year was the first time that vans were included in the assessment of vehicles against the New Vehicle Security Ratings (NVSR) scheme.

For the third year in a row the Ford S-Max has received the highest score in its large MPV class with the Ford Galaxy coming in a close second. This outstanding result re-affirms Ford’s vehicle security reputation.

These testing security awards are supported by the Home Office, Automobile Association, UK Department for Transport and a number of British vehicle insurers. These are the highest official recognised awards for vehicle security in the United Kingdom.

The Ford S-Max costs £19,885 from the showroom but you could be driving one of these fantastic MPVs for an initial down payment of £809.85 and affordable monthly payments of only £269.95 for three years on a Ford lease contract.

The Brand New Ford Mondeo

The Ford Mondeo has firmly planted itself into the nation’s collective conscience as the stylish saloon of choice. The Ford Mondeo has been through a variety of image changes and has quickly evolved from a rather dumpy looking motorway car to be consistently found in service stations, to a sporty, sleek and attractive saloon. I have slight concerns that I am slightly concerned would prevent me from investing in a brand new Ford Mondeo.

Firstly, I like to think of myself as something of an individual. I enjoy wearing clothes that few other people have, listening to music that is not enjoyed by the entire population and driving cars that have considerably more character and individuality behind them than the Mondeo does. It has to be said that if you leave your home for any period of time, you can virtually guarantee you will witness the minimum one Ford Mondeo making its way past you.

Secondly, I question whether the Ford Mondeo has the ilk of performance that I would require from my car choice. I’m not referring to gadgets such as sat nav or video screens in the rears of the seats; I am talking about that masterly comfort and smooth driving performance that you only get from a certain pedigree of car.

When I was looking for a brand new Saloon car I definitely had these concerns in mind, but decided to heed the advice of the majority of automotive critics and give the Ford Mondeo a fair trial. I decided to visit my nearest Ford Online dealership to set up the test drive.

As it happens I am amazingly grateful that I gave the Mondeo a test drive, as it proved itself to be something of a revelation. The comfort of the drive was similar to that of a car worth exponentially more than the Mondeo. It truly is the King of Saloon cars.

Mondo Mondeo!

When it comes to choosing the best possible Saloon Cars, most car magazines or other Automotive mediums will inevitably point you in the direction of one particular make and model; the Ford Mondeo. The Ford Mondeo has been a consistent and popular seller since its release in 1993. Back then it was the replacement for the relatively popular Ford Sierra, which had been a good flagship model for Ford in the company car sector, but was beginning to lose its advantage over the competiton. The Ford Mondeo was meant to reinvigorate the design and bring a more ‘executive’ edge to the manufacturer who were beginning to run out of ideas.

The Mondeo then began a 20+ year domination over the saloon car market, which is yet to dissipate thanks to Ford’s constantly evolving design ethic. The current design falls into Ford’s new ‘Kinetic’ design aesthetic, which is meant to represent the vehicle’s movement even when it is standing dead still. This sounds a little bit ‘clichéd’ as far as design briefs go, but in practice it really works and looks rather striking in its price bracket.

In a rather crude experiment to see how the Ford Mondeo has evolved over time, I have spent the week comparing an original Mark 1 Mondeo to the new Mark 4 edition. Obviously first impressions are vastly differing; the Mk1 looks rather too much like the old Sierra for my liking, but is definitely a step in the right direction. In contrast, the MK4 looks like it was designed by a Sci-Fi writer. In short, it looks great.

The performance test confirms the new edition’s clear dominance over the past incumbent. In a one lap time trial race of a 9.3 mile race track, there was a clear winner despite both cars having 2.Ltr Petrol Engines. As if you hadn’t guessed, the MK 4 won by an embarrassingly long 6.3 seconds.

So what we can agree on is that the Ford Mondeo’s star is definitely still in its ascendency. Whether it will maintain its positive trajectory rather depends on Ford and the often fickle buying public.

Formidable Ford Mondeo

It is quite a challenge to determine what makes a truly great car. I spent about an 3 hours today arguing with my colleagues about the three top categories for choosing a car. Eventually we settled on value for money, engine performance and reliability. We all agreed there were other factors to take into account (practicality, top speed, gadgets) but the chosen three seemed most urgent.

Value for money relates directly to the quality of car you get for money paid. The chances are stacked against you getting a sporty car, with a V8 engine and all the safety certification in the world for less than £20,000, but if you can do it that would represent wonderful value for money. Engine performance takes into account not only BHP/torque and speed, but also issues such as economy issues (how much it costs to run) and ecology issues (CO2 Emissions). Finally, reliability became the third point to our holy trinity of what makes a truly great car, after all it doesn’t matter how cool your car is, if it breaks down every 30 miles or so it is pretty much worthless.

When applying these categorisations to our knowledge of cars, one particular model kept being mentioned. Every time it was mentioned we dismissed it as a rather idiotic idea, but the more you think about it the more it begins to make sense. The model in question was the Ford Mondeo.

I know what you’re thinking; you’re thinking ‘how can they consider the Ford Mondeo to be an awe-inspiring car?’ Well, that’s precisely why we dismissed it at first, but the Ford Mondeo really does tick all the pre-requisite boxes.

When it comes to Ford, no one does value for money quite as well as them. Engine performance on the Mondeo is terrific with fantastic levels of power and economy. As far as reliability goes, the Ford Mondeo has one of the most respected names in the automotive industry. See if you can think of anything to rival the Ford Mondeo in these categories. Scrappage Scheme Participants Miss Out on Cheap Deals

Even though the idea of the scrappage scheme was good, buyers that are using the grant are loosing out because car dealers are not offering the same low price deals that they offer to anyone else.

If you don’t know what the scrappage scheme involves, it’s where the government gives you £2,000 to scrap an old car thats more than 10 years old.

Not all customers will be denied the deal. Only customers that take out a car manufacturer loan to pay for the car over a series of years. The way they will be loosing out is because the car manufacturers who offer loans that have interest rates as low as 4.0%, they are charging up to 10% APR for customers on the car scrappage scheme. This means that it’s cheaper to sell your car privately and get a lower APR.

Toyota is one of many car manufacturers that are increasing their percentage rates. Toyota has loan deals available with rates between.9 and 5.9%, based upon a series of factors, including the length of the loan and the size of the deposit. However, they have decided now that they are only going offer an 8.9% rate to participants of the scrappage scheme. This means that is you were to buy a T2 Avensis, with the scrappage scheme it would set you back £14,565, however, once you pay off the loan you would have payed just over £17,200 which is almost £700 over the retail price.

Another 2 manufacturers that are doing the same thing is Seat and Ford. When buying a new Ford, they normally offer a 3.9 APR, however, if you are using a scrappage grant, you have to take the 7.9 APR that they have to offer. Seat is the worse of the 3, their loans normally carry a 0 APR, however, if you are part of the scrappage scheme, you will have to have a 8.9 APR.

The reason this problem has come about is because the government has made the car manufacturers pay for half the bill of the scheme. This has resulted in an increase in percentage rates to make sure that the car manufacturers don’t loose any money.

So it sounds like it would be better to sell your car privately rather than going into the scrappage scheme. However, there are different options out there. Contract hire is a method of owning a car that is often overlooked. By taking out a Ford lease you can get the latest cars at cheaper prices.

New Engine Needs a Shot of the Hard Stuff

Just as president Barrack Obama announced regulations that that require the fuel efficiency of all new cars and trucks to be raised by an average of 30% by 2016 the Ford Motor company revealed test results of a unique ethanol assisted engine that make it as fuel efficient as a petrol-electric hybrid.

The new engine, called a direct-injection ethanol engine, runs primarily on petrol. But when the engine needs some additional power, to climb a hill or accelerate to overtake, the engine management system adds a dash of ethanol to the fuel.

This results is an improvement in fuel efficiency of around 23% for an average car. This is due to the fact that the engine operates at a higher compression ratio. The compression ratio is a measure of how much the fuel and air mixture is compressed before being ignited. Higher compression ratios would normally result in premature ignition which is commonly called knocking. Adding ethanol to the fuel-air mixture suppresses knocking.

A pick-up truck fitted with one of the new engines, along with an additional ethanol fuel tank, showed a 23% improvement in fuel efficiency while maintaining performance levels. It was estimated that a 40 litre auxiliary tank of ethanol would last for around 30,000 kilometres.

It is expected that the next phase of testing and evaluation will see the new engine used in a variety of vehicles. More testing is to be carried out to assess whether the new ethanol assisted engine becomes unstable when the ethanol runs out.

The cost of these new engines is around one third of the extra cost of a hybrid petrol-electric engine. Hybrids typically deliver an improvement in fuel economy of between 25 and 35%. The new direct-injection ethanol engine looks like it is a strong contender that will meet Obama’s projected fuel efficiency figures.

It was on May the 19th when Barrack Obama announced at the White House: “The goal is to set one national standard that will rapidly increase fuel efficiency, without compromising safety, by an average of 5 percent each year between 2012 and 2016″.

The new rules would require vehicle’s average fuel economy standards to be 35.5 miles per gallon by 2016. Specifically, an average of 39 miles per gallon for cars and 30 miles per gallon for trucks. In 2009 the average fuel efficiency is 25 miles per gallon.

These new regulations will inevitably mean additional costs for motor manufacturers, which will be passed on to consumers. But although people will be paying more for their cars and trucks they will be paying less for fuel. Obama said that it was estimated that the average driver would save as much as $2800 by improving their gas mileage.

One way that anyone interested in a new car can save money is to consider financing their new transport using a car lease. Car leasing offers personal and business customers many advantages over outright purchase. My Ford Dilemma

Every single driver will obviously have differing categories and stipulations regarding what makes an awe-inspiring car. Some will be of the opinion that power, speed and performance are the mark of a truly great car and suggest that the Bugatti Veyron or something similar is the perfect car. Others will hold esteem in a more aesthetic nature and put forward cars such as the Ferrari 599 and the Aston Martin Vanquish as the real purveyors of automotive perfection. I have always held the opinion that the truly stupendous cars don't focus on one thing, but try to encapsulate the needs and desires of everyone into their designs and engineering. This is precisely why my favourite car is the brand new Ford Focus.

Now you may be laughing or deriding me for saying that I would rather own a Ford Focus than a Pagani Zonda or a Koenigsegg, but that simply isn’t true. I would love to own one of the many supercars or hypercars that are available on the market and if you gave me £1 Million to spend on a car I wouldn’t disappoint you. All I am trying to say that in a practical world the new Ford Focus is a lot less likely to frustrate you than a supercar. Let me explain.

First of all you have fuel efficiency to take into consideration in the conundrum. Ford have become synonymous with engineering which seems to sip very frugally at the fuel reserves and the Focus is no different. With economical driving disciplines in place it is possible to get supermini standard fuel economy from a Ford Focus. This leaves you with more money in your wallet and having to spend less time stood at the pumps, refilling every few hours.

With the cost of petrol, the congestion on the roads and the increasing number of uninsured drivers on the road, why would any drive for pleasure?

Take my advice and get the best practical car money can buy; the brand new Ford Focus. You will get great performance and fantastic economy, just don’t expect 0-60 in under three and a half seconds.

Ford See 20% Sales Rise

Ford has announced that it has seen growth in it’s market share in the US. The US manufacturer is the only major manufacturer who has not filed for bankruptcy in the US, they announced that they have sold 155,954 vehicles in the last month. This figure is a 20% increase on April sales, however, it’s a 24% decrease on sales from the same month last year.

General Motors and Chrysler may have had an affect on Fords sales figures, both companies have seen record low sales and have both filed for bankruptcy recently.

GM released their current sales figures the day after they filed for bankruptcy. They announced that they saw 191,875 sales in May which is an 11% rise on last months sales, however, it’s a 30% decrease from the same month last year. The worst sales came from the makes that General Motors plan to sell on, Hummer, Saab, Saturn and Pontiac.

Chrysler announced 79,010 vehicle sales during May, which is a 47% drop in sales from the same month last year, they filed for bankruptcy on April 30th. They said their sales were a result of over 700 dealers that are cutting costs to get rid of Chrysler cars as they are stopping sales after this week.

Ford is planning on changing their vehicle production strategy to try and benefit from the current situation. They plan on increasing their production to make an extra 52,000 vehicles over the next 2 quarters.

The majority of car manufacturers have seen a drop in sales during the economic downturn, however, the drop in sales is not all down to a drop in public sales. Corporate sales have also been on the decrease, companies that offer Ford leasing aswell as a number of other makes such as Peugeot leasing are buying less cars because they are being hit by the credit crunch. The problem is that people rarely think about leasing a car which is generally the cheaper option, they normally think about buying a whole new car, and if they can’t afford it, they don’t bother.

The US wants an Economical Ford!

Ford’s aim was to make an Eco friendly car in the Fiesta. It is a small vehicle that can fit up to 5 people and achieve astronomical fuel economy numbers. It seems like a very capable car with no downside, except we cannot buy it.

Even though the Fiesta could compete with other fuel efficient cars, Ford is only selling them in Europe. The President of Ford said that they could not sell the Fiesta in the US for “business reasons” whatever that means.

The top arguement for not selling the Fiesta on US soil is that American’s detest diesel fuel. Diesel cars have the nasty stigma of being smelly, smog emitting cars to the general US public.

Current vehicles powered by diesel have such advanced clean technology that they are 30% more efficient while emitting less harmful pollutants. Any 65 MPG car would be good for America? Ford doesn’t think that North and South America would buy any diesel cars. The Fiesta diesel is equal to the best European diesels but probably would not sell good here in America; according to Ford.

Ford believes that the could not make any money on selling the Fiesta, and the fact that the Fiesta is made in Britian does not help.The main problem is will American’s ever see Diesel as an alternative to regular gas, enought so that car makers will make a profit on Diesel cars?Does Ford know what the Volkswagen Jetta TDi is.If the Fiesta were to come to America, it would cost about as much as the Jetta TDi, get much better gas mileage, and become an acclaimed clean car. Ford is missing out on all this publicity the Jetta is enjoying.

If you are looking for a brand new car, why not try a new Ford Fiesta? The new version of the Fiesta has been released to critical acclaim and has sold like hot cakes. After a successful unveiling at various international car shows, the Ford Fiesta started gaining critical attention. Upon its release it didn’t disappoint. What has gained the most of the media spotlight are the Fiesta’s bold and sporty new looks. The previous Fiesta looked like a slightly scaled down Ford Focus, where as the new fiesta is a complete new entity on its own.

The engine and interior is almost identical to the previous models. That isn’t a bad thing though; the Fiesta has always been a comfortable place to be when driving. As far as drive quality goes, the Ford Fiesta is simply perfect for its price range. The lightness of steering and eagerness of the engine make this a very enjoyable car to drive, whether you are in the city or motorway. It is, however, at its best when cruising through the city streets, looking and handling confident and assured amongst the various challenges with urban driving.

As there are various models and trims to choose from, recommending the right Fiesta is a difficult choice. There isn’t a great deal of performance difference between some of the models, other than slightly more powerful engines. I would recommend that as this is a budget supermini, you keep the spec simple and keep costs down. You will still experience a very good drive and one far superior to the Fiesta’s competition.
